I apologise in advance that this will be quite a mammoth post… but I’ve saved this for almost the end of blogmas because it’s a nice way to start wrapping up and reflecting on 2016. Also, I really tried hard to capture Christmas in the photography –it’s an aspect of my blog I am always looking to improve and develop, and I am so envious of people that can assemble stunning flat lays. I always try to ask myself when taking product shots, “how can I make this photo better” and sometimes I get it, sometimes I don’t. Anyway, I am making this post even longer by rambling so without any further ado, here are my 2016 beauty and skincare favourites.
Garnier Ultimate Blends – Honey Treasures
Ever since first trying out Garnier Ultimate Blends for the first time a couple of years ago I have loved the range, always snapping them up when I see them on special offer.
I took an interest to this particular Garnier Ultimate Blends set when I noticed they focused on restoring strength. For whatever reason, maybe since starting to re-dye my hair which until last October I hadn’t done in years, I have noticed that when in the shower, it feels like large clumps of my hair fall out when washing. Since using this shampoo and conditioner, I don’t notice this quite so much which makes me think this combination really works and I’ll be persisting with them for a while yet to come. They also smell amazing!
Rimmel London Sculpting Palette
I reviewed this sculpting palette recently (here) and I just love it; it’s such a great little compact of product which if you’re struggling for some last minute stocking fillers, will make a great gift.
The overall pigment and quality is just incredible and can be used all year round.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bachelorette
When I was in America last year (read about my trip here) I of course hauled a hellava lot of beauty stuff back with me (see my haul here), two of the products being the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks. I purchased Vampira and Bachelorette, and it’s Bachelorette that I love the most –it’s an incredibly wearable red colour which adds that much needed pop to lift an outfit, particularly over autumn and winter. The pigment is excellent and the product lasts all day without a hitch.
I have yet to visit a Kat Von D stand in Debenhams yet but I would both recommend these liquid lipsticks, as well as intend to pick up new ones myself.
Sleek Matte Me Liquid Lipstick in Birthday Suit
Another liquid lipstick for you (and not the last either in this post), this year I finally tried the Matte Me range from Sleek. I’ve got Velvet Slipper (reviewed here) and Birthday Suit (review here) and they again are just super quality products available on the high street. Birthday Suit is my everyday staple, it goes with everything and lasts really well on the lips.
Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick in Warm Beige
I discovered this when I went to Bobbi Brown for my Bridal makeup trial (see it here) and I’ve pretty much used it ever since. I love its lightness on the skin, its coverage, and how easy it is to blend and apply other products on top of. I noticed this very morning that I am about to use up the last of the product so I need to repurchase this foundation pronto. It’s pricey, but once you’ve tried quality, you can’t go back.
Dr Botanicals Moroccan Rose Superfood Facial Oil
I have a whole collection of facial oils that I have received in beauty boxes but this one (which I was very kindly sent), became an instant favourite in my collection. I reviewed it not too long ago (here), and it’s the perfect oil to apply after I take my makeup off when I get in after work (is there a better feeling?). It’s light and feels amazing on my skin. Again it’s pricey, but I think it’s worth it.
The Body Shop Colour Crush Matte Lipstick in Osaka Plum
I was thoroughly impressed when I tried this lipstick recently (review here) as it’s staying power was just something else. I definitely would recommend checking out this new line of makeup from The Body Shop.
Dr Organic Virgin Coconut oil Day & Night Cream
We all know the powers coconut oil has on the skin, and these two moisturisers available from Holland & Barrett are brilliant. I use the day cream in the morning, and the night cream (which is a thicker formula) overnight; they inject some much needed moisture into my face and quite honestly have been a Godsend over the autumn and winter months. Read my review here.
The Body Shop Pinita Colada Body Scrub
Have The Body Shop released something in 2016 that I haven’t loved? I don’t think so. This range really was stand out over the summer and so many people loved it from the off, me included. The unfortunate situation I am in now is that I didn’t get a chance to purchase an additional shower gel and scrub from the range and so have found myself rationing it, a bit like I used to do with Lush’s Snow Fairy. Read my review here.
The Library of Fragrance Four Leaf Clover
This has been a surprise hit for me in 2016 following it being a random find in TK MAXX over the summer. It’s one of those scents that I can’t really describe, and it probably shouldn’t work as a scent, but it totally does. See my review here.
Rimmel London Insta Flawless
My absolute go-to product to adding some glow to my face, either underneath foundation, or worn on its own. Read my review here.
Vita Liberata Luxury Tan
I used this on my best friend when she got married back in September this year and for me, I use this any time I need a light bronzing to my skin. The product is light, terrific to blend and well pigmented –little goes a long way!
Hi Impact Brows Palette
This has honestly been one of my most loved products of all the products I have ever received in a beauty box. Since receiving it in February’s Look Fantastic box, I have literally used nothing else since for my brows.
Wet n’ Wild Eye Shadow Brush
Another of the items I hauled in America last October and I still regret not picking up more brushes from Wet n’ Wild. As you know I own a large collection of brushes (here) but this eye shadow brush is one of the best; it’s excellent for picking up and distributing product and soft to blend.
Stila Extreme Huge Lash Mascara and Liquid Eyeliner
Another of those products this year that once I’ve discovered, I haven’t used anything else since. For me I just love how the mascara upon applications makes my lashes full and thick, and doesn’t flake off after a few hours.
While I don’t adore the liquid eyeliner, it has been consistently used since I received it. Sometimes it’s not as jet black as I would like but the nib and pen shape make application for the perfect wing flick a dream.
Read my review of both products here.
Bobbi Brown Eye Brightener in Bisque
Another product discovered in my bridal makeup trial that I’ve just loved since. The concealer is wonderful for brightening under my eye area, and the creamy formula makes it blend beautifully.
Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer in 01 and 02
This year I decided it was time to explore a new concealer on the high street having been a fan of the Collection Match Perfection ones for years. The packaging aside, I love this concealer as it is creamy, blends lovely and hydrates my skin. However, what I would say is while the packaging is very pretty, it’s really annoying having to screw the wand back into the tube to get more product out. That’s where the Collection concealers, and even the Bobbi Brown one above, hit the mark.
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Plum Plum Girl
I couldn’t have a favourites post and leave out my number one favourite liquid lipsticks could I? I’ll admit that the above liquid lipsticks mentioned are extremely high on my list, but for me Bourjois remain number one for their consistency. Plum Plum Girl was a real challenge to track down I remember as everywhere sold out of it whenever I went into store, but it was well worth the wait. See my review of the products here.
Of course there are a few other products that I have used consistently throughout the year and have loved them, so the above is a top selection. To be honest, it’s not very often I either buy or receive a product I really dislike or doesn’t agree with my skin.
What have been your favourite beauty and skincare products in 2016?
Until tomorrow x
