A Huge American Beauty Haul

Hey Sweeties,

So, I have no doubt that for those that were aware of my recent trip to the States, you want to know what beauty bits I have brought back? Well, wait no more, here is my American beauty haul!

A couple of weeks ago you’ll remember I posted a beauty wish list (here) and I have to be honest, I got only one of the items on that list. For the most part, it’s because the one opportunity I got to go beauty shopping (despite the hundreds of Ulta’s and Target’s we drove past), and I visited just one Sephora store and two Walgreens, (the second of which came up trumps for finds). All three stores were in Las Vegas.

I have never been in a Sephora before and I was honestly like a kid in a candy shop. However, while my mind went crazy, I did have my list with me so that I wasn’t running around on a beauty shop high completely untethered but of course additional items did go into my basket.

Kat Von D setting spray

I have been after a setting spray, particularly for my wedding next year, and Urban Decay were probably top of the list based on reviews I have previously read. However, I had a chance to try out a few in store and the Lock’n Load Makeup Setting Mist by Kat Von D, for me, was the best. It was incredibly light, very refreshing and set quickly. Sold!

Keeping with Kat Von D, I deliberately hunted out her Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks and I have come back with two -Bachelorette and Vampira.

While in America, I took the opportunity to try out Bachelorette on a night out and while my expectation was high, it didn’t last as well as I thought it would but in fairness, I did eat a rather greasy (but delicious) mac & cheese for dinner so for now, I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and report back again soon.

Nars Satin Lip Pencil Palais Royal

This is my first Nars product in my collection and I have heard so many good things about their Satin Lip Pencils. I swatched a few before deciding on purchasing Palais Royal, as I loved the colour and felt I would get a lot of wear out of it.

Tarte Energy Noir palette

Originally I planned to purchase the Tarte Light of the Party Makeup Collectors Case but when I had it in front of me, while I liked it, it didn’t blow me away, whereas the Energy Noir palette (above), did. The palette, which is a gorgeous rich purple and gold chrome compact, contains nine eye shadows -a mix of neutral, plum and smokey shades- and one blush. It’s beautiful.

Too Faced Love palette

…Because I felt I don’t already have enough eye shadow palettes, I couldn’t walk away from the Too Faced Love palette. I mean, how could you? look at it!

With my Sephora bag bulging, I trotted along down the strip back towards the hotel and on my way down popped into the first of two Walgreens I visited that day. The first store as I mentioned didn’t really have anything in it, but the second Walgreens (they are a bit like Starbucks, there are several stores all along the strip) really did come up trumps.

You don’t have to be obsessed with beauty to know that there is a lot of hype around The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer and I was stood admiring it when a store assistant came over to advise me that for $28, I could purchase all three ‘sisters’ – Mary-Lou, Cindy-Lou and Betty-Lou – at the neighbouring stand. Well I just skipped on over there didn’t I!

You guys already know I have a bit of an obsession with blushers, so this very pretty Romantic Rose powder blush from Milani hardly needs apologising for… does it?

I was pleased to find a Wet n Wild stand while in the States and it was actually when we did a quick food stop at an Albertsons at random, that I stumbled across them.

Wet n Wild trio

As I had taken a really small makeup collection with me on holiday (I was camping for 90% of the trip, I really didn’t need any), I used this opportunity to pick up some products that I could use immediately and not savour until I got home. This brand is seriously good value and the pigmentation of the eye shadows is brilliant and very blendable. I picked up one of the trio palettes in 335 Silent Treatment, and two illuminating powders in 345 Catwalk Pink and 346 Strike-a-Pose-Rose. I also purchased an eye shadow brush from the brand and I regret not picking up a second.

Finally (yes, finally, nearly there guys, well done!) I picked up two black eyeliners -a liquid one from Rimmel which was crap and too watery, and a pencil from CoverGirl which actually is lovely to use.

Right we’re done! Phew!

Until next time x
