An Alternative Manifesto!

Alternative manifesto

Hey Sweeties,

You all know how I am one for an opinion and yes, I appreciate it’s not Sunday but today is quite significant and what I have to say, simply cannot wait until the weekend.

So.

I, like you, am not overly confident or impressed with the current offering presented by the parties and their candidates and feel that politics -something that concerns us all- disengages far too many people who go on to waste their right to vote. For me, the thing that bothers me most is the complete lack of female representation in parliament –where are all the women?! I am by far not a man-hating feminist and for the most part, don’t have a problem with a man running the country, I just don’t like or agree that there aren’t many female voices helping influence the agenda.

So, with Election Day upon us I thought I would take this last minute opportunity to run for parliament and present you with an alternative option. Therefore may I present to you the CW Party Manifesto! (Ta Dah!)

Firstly, equal pay for all would be pushed high on the agenda!

I would actively encourage and employ more female MP’s to stand for, champion and adequately represent women on all policies, laws and matters in parliament.

I would ensure that parliament became a place women felt comfortable to be and able to stand up for what we want and believe in.

Economy: I would keep the UK in the EU. I don’t see the benefit of being a standalone country and I personally still want free travel in and out of Europe. However, of course immigration would be looked at and reviewed with policies & laws introduced to adequately support the UK, its borders and its legitimate working people going forward.

Healthcare: I would invest heavily (but sensibly) in keeping and improving the NHS so the UK can continue to offer free healthcare to UK citizens.

I would encourage more people to take up medicine, nursing, midwifery etc. and provide support for learning to achieve this.

Tampons, sanitary towels and other related toiletries would become available on the NHS for all women.

Childcare: Maternity and paternity leave would be reviewed and a better system in place to support working parents, particularly support with childcare costs.

Education: I would encourage the continuation of performance related pay for teachers and provide more support for those falling under the set performance level. That said, there is no excuse for bad teaching and if you don’t improve, you don’t teach.

Keeping with education, I would change the national curriculum to incorporate a basic overview of politics, taxes, mortgages and things relevant to adult life. I would scrap pointless subjects like General Studies –I mean, what even is that?!

Housing: I would continue to support schemes that enabled young people/couples/families to afford home ownership. I would build more new homes sensibly and where land allowed within reason. I am not informed enough to comment on social housing and its policies at this stage but this of course would be reviewed.

And finally, if I did nothing else, I would campaign endlessly to raise awareness of the importance of voting so whatever you do, please vote! The Suffragettes fought for so long for women to be acknowledged in society and to have a voice, we must now all vote so their efforts weren’t all for nothing!

You have just read a party political broadcast post from the CW Party, thank you for your time x

Note/spoiler: This is of course not a political blog but I do like to keep things topical as you know. This is a bit of fun; I am not an actual candidate so please don’t take this seriously and of course all opinions are my own. I have written previously on voting for the first time which you can read here.
