Hey Sweeties,
On Saturday I attended the Blogosphere Valentines Tea Party hosted by Blogosphere magazine. A few weeks ago I randomly caught the tweet announcing the event and I jumped at the opportunity to purchase a ticket (for £15 which I thought was perfectly reasonable), and secure the date in my calendar.
It was also exciting following the #BlogosphereValentines tag on Twitter leading up to the event and connecting with fellow bloggers who were going; a great tip if you’re going to events alone like I do!
The Venue
The Blogosphere Valentine’s Tea Party was held at the Tropical Library in Lumiere London (SE1), a short walk from Southwark underground station. The building looked like any other on the street, but upon entering you walk up two flights of stairs before reaching the second floor where the party was being held.
I was warmly welcomed on arrival and I was glad of a coat rail as that would’ve seriously restricted my being had I had to have my coat and scarf over my arm all afternoon.
I was glad I arrived slightly before the 1pm kick off as it enabled me to see the room before it got filled with people, and it was a really pretty and inviting space.
The first part of the room was open plan and the brands were positioned around the edge of the space which was ideal for visiting each of them, with standing space in the middle for networking. The back part of the room had seating areas and were where two talks with bloggers were hosted; unfortunately a PA system was lacking so I couldn’t hear either of the two talks and gave up trying to listen after a couple of minutes, choosing to re-visit a couple of the brands and chat with some new blogger buddies instead.
The Brands
As soon as you walked into the room, The Duppy Share Caribbean Rum and Pearl and Groove Bakery were positioned on the right. As someone that lives a 90% plant-based lifestyle (the 10% almost purely to allow for cake), I was delighted to see cake that was sugar, dairy and gluten free; the rum punch served by The Duppy Share was also very yummy and not too strong -I easily sank two cups during the event! If you don’t drink alcohol I’m not sure if the event offered an alcohol-free alternative though… I certainly didn’t see any other beverage on offer.
Book You Lifestyle – Anyone who loves visiting spas and salons, need to check these guys out. With a network that covers much of the UK, Book your Lifestyle can connect beauty fans with new salons and spas to visit; ideal if maybe you’re having a staycation in a different part of the UK and want to have a pamper day, or find places near you that you weren’t aware were there.
Kat Von D Beauty – Possibly the number one brand everyone wanted to meet at the Blogosphere Valentine’s tea party (understandably), I too was extremely excited to see what they were offering. I you remember I picked up two of the everlasting liquid lipsticks in America a couple of years ago (here), which are brilliant (and I’m reminded that I need to do a separate review on them for you guys soon), as well as the setting mist.
At the event, Kat Von D Beauty were specifically showcasing the Lock-It Foundation, Brightening Powders and the Makeup Setting Mist, along with the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks.
Other brands in attendance were Dr Lipp (award winning nipple balm for lips); Glo & Ray a British cosmetics company who I haven’t actually heard of before so I am intrigued to give some of their products a go and will review for you soon. Samaya who create natural skincare based on Ayurvedic principles; and It’s The Flash Pack who had a photobooth that enabled attendees to have a mock up cover created of themselves on the front of Blogosphere magazine, which was actually really cool.
The Goody Bag & Samples
Overall, I thought the event was well worth attending and aside from not being able to hear the bloggers talk, and there was a fire alarm issue, I got a lot out of the event and met some lovely people that I hope to keep in contact with. A big thank you to Blogosphere Magazine for organising!
What are you tips for attending events on your own?
Until next time x
I think there was tea and orange juice…? Not quite sure, the rum had all my attention 😉
