Look Fantastic Beauty Box: December | Blogmas Day 19

Hey Sweeties,

We’re getting so close to Christmas now, it’s crazy! I can’t quite believe it’s next week and I hate to say this but I am not in the least bit ready, maybe because I’m not feeling all that festive yet and to be honest it is still quite warm for winter. Hmmm… Anyway, today I am reviewing for you the December Look Fantastic beauty box; the third of the limited edition Christmas boxes.

Look Fantastic December Box

Contents: Eve Lom morning time cleanser; Lord & Berry Pailette Glitter Eye Pencil; Wetbrush Squirt; Codage No3 Radiance & Energy serum; Eylure Double lash false eyelashes; and Molton Brown Body wash in Japanese Orange.

I was pleased to see another Eve Lom cleanser in the box this month as I have really enjoyed using the Eve Lom Summer Ready Complexion Cleanser I received in the August box (here). However, it took me ages to work out how to get product out which sounds bizarre but it’s true. To the eye it looks like a normal tube with a screw lid however the lid does not come off, for ages I was clicking it back and forth and it’s only when product suddenly landed in my hand did I realise it was a twist cap. Maybe it was just me being a bit slow but there was nothing anywhere giving instructions so I just assumed I had a faulty tube. That being said, it is of course a lovely product and absolutely leaves my skin feeling youthful and radiant. The only thing I would say wasn’t ideal was that it recommends leaving the product on for a couple of minutes before washing off, on a weekend this is fine when I have the time to do that but for an everyday cleanser I haven’t got that kind of time in the morning for one product/stage in my routine.

I am yet to try the false double lashes from Eylure but I am excited too and no doubt an opportunity will present itself over Christmas. They do possibly look a bit too dramatic for what I would normally wear and seem to remind me of Jessie from Little Mix for some reason -anyone else know what I mean here? But I have heard such good things about Eylure lashes.

I also have yet to try the Pailette Glitter eyeliner from Lord & Berry but as you can tell from the above swatch it’s dark and it’s glittery; a party essential!

I am undecided if I like the Codage No3 Radiance & Energy Serum. It’s described as being ‘a genuine elixir of cellular replenishment, especially formulated to detoxify and restore brightness to lacklustre skin.’ I think it’s the packaging; while it’s small and compact, the pump distributes the smallest amount so it takes a few pumps to get enough product. To apply the serum is perfectly fine but it hasn’t totally blown me away just yet, but I will continue using and see if I notice anything in time.

If I had received the Wetbrush Squirt earlier in the year when I had long hair, I think this would have been a total blessing in disguise as it glides through wet hair like a dream. For shorter hair, while it’s still a brilliant brush, I have been far too loyal to my trusty Detangler for that to be suddenly budged out the way. But if you are looking for a alternative to the Detangler, the Wet Brush is a worthy contender.

Finally and possibly my favourite within the box this month, the Molton Brown Body Wash in Japanese Orange. I love orange and citrus scented products and this body wash is not only luxury, it’s not overpowering in its scent so it’s a total pleasure to use.

Until next time x

NARS Glossybox Review | Blogmas Day 1

Hey Sweeties,

I can’t remember exactly when I first heard about the quite possibly and definitely arguably most exciting collaboration of 2015, but I am sure it was months ago and the wait has been agonising. But it’s here, it’s finally here, the Nars Glossybox has landed!

NARS Glossybox

It’s very rare that I find myself in a queue that will see me compete with others to get my hands on something first, I don’t even get into bidding wars on eBay that much so this was serious. Having registered my interest with Glossybox I was sent a link that would allow us early birds an exclusive pre-sale opportunity to get the much sought after box, and despite a small problem with the link that got me sweating in worry, I did finally get through and make my purchase in the nick of time. Reports suggest that the box sold out within 27 minutes!

So what was all the fuss about? Well, it was this…

NARS Glossybox

Now, I don’t know about you but I am guessing that most of the people that wanted this box, don’t own many or any products from NARS? I’m the former of the two, before this box I have only had one other NARS product in my collection which was another of their satin lip pencils that I purchased in my American haul a month ago. So this box for me was a perfect opportunity to broaden my collection and try out the hero products the brand champions.

NARS Glossybox

Audacious Mascara – As you guys know, I struggle to fork out for high-end mascaras. Every now and again I’ll try one and it’ll be amazing, but not so amazing that I would commit and this one from NARS is the same. It lengthens and defines my lashes fantastically and I’ll definitely be wearing it across the holiday season but as for afterwards, I think unlikely as I just cannot justify spending £21 when there are as good versions out there in Boots, Superdrug etc. Saying that, it could well be a contender for my wedding makeup so watch this space!

Larger than Life Eyeliner – I have never tried a high-end eyeliner pencil before, only in gel format so this is a totally new experience. As it is described, the formula is rich and creamy and it applies beautifully without pulling at the lid unnecessarily. It stays put. There is little if anything to find fault with and I think if you loved high-end makeup and wore it daily, this product wouldn’t be a bad shout.

The Multiple in Orgasm – I have so far just used this product on my cheeks and it provides a lovely fresh glow, arguably great for either winter or summer. It can also be used on eyes and lips of which I have yet to try.

Blush in Orgasm – So regular readers will know how much I love blushers and it is the one area (except for eye palettes) that I am more ok with splashing out in order to get hold of those really special pans of blush. At £23, this one certainly I don’t think brakes the bank and if you are after a natural flush to the cheeks in a product this is for you. Apparently it pairs beautifully with the Multiple by layering the blush on top of it for a ‘luminous, intense finish’ and I will certainly be trying this for my work Christmas party later this month.

Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien – As mentioned above, I already own one of the NARS satin lip pencils and it’s a gorgeous product so I am delighted at adding another to my collection. I am slightly disappointed though that we weren’t provided with a more impactful shade, but you can’t fundamentally go wrong with a nude and this one is very pretty. I just can’t be sure that I’ll reach for it as much as I will my other nude toned products, particularly over winter but ask me again next spring.

Overall, this is a fantastic box and anyone who has managed to get their hands on it will absolutely love these products without a doubt. I am definitely encouraged to take the plunge with more NARS products going forward, particularly their sheer glow foundation which I hear so many rave about.

Were any of you guys lucky enough to get this box or already tried any of the products listed above?

Until next time x

Look Fantastic Beauty Box | October & November

Hey Sweeties,

First of all I have to apologise as I failed to upload a review of last month’s beauty box, but in my defence, I was away for most of it in America and I didn’t want to post without actually giving some/all of the products a proper trial. So if you’ll forgive me, I have included both the October and November Look Fantastic Beauty Box in this post. Here goes –

October Box

Look Fantastic October beauty box

Contents: Elemis Hydra-Balance Day Cream; Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser; Percy & Reed Smoothed, Sealed and sensational No Oil Oil; (not pictured) Nuxe Rêve De Miel Hand & Nail Cream; Monu Firming Moisturiser; Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) Eye shading brush; and Balance Me radiance Face Mask.

Firstly I have to highlight that the Balance Me radiance face mask wasn’t featured within the supporting booklet that accompanies the box each month, which makes me wonder if this is a rogue item that snuck its way in? As yet I haven’t tried this product out but while I have been vocal previously about getting a little bored with this brand constantly arriving in my boxes, I like that it’s a face mask to try out that isn’t in one of those annoying sachets.

I was pleased to see in this box a variety of creams and moisturisers to try out and even though the Elemis day cream and the Monu firming moisturiser are nice to use, I personally find them too scented for my liking. Some won’t mind this and the scents definitely aren’t bad but I just prefer something very subtle if at all in these types of facial products.

As soon as the box arrived and I viewed the contents, I whipped out the Nuxe hand & nail cream and put it straight in my purse, hence why it missed being photographed. However it is a lovely product that is nice to apply and leaves your hands moisturised without being left sticky. It is also very lightly scented which on your hands is completely fine and a nice feature.

I have also really enjoyed the Murad exfoliating cleanser as it is not as harsh as others I use. When I say ‘harsh’ I don’t imply this negatively as once or twice a week it’s good to exfoliate the skin, but this one from Murad feels much gentler.

LGFB “is the only worldwide cancer charity providing practical support for women and teenagers struggling with the visible side effects of their cancer treatment. 12% from all sales of this brush collection will be donated to the charity.” This eye shading brush from their range is a total delight to use and so soft. The handle is also the perfect size to sit comfortably in your hand. I have actually recently started seeing these brushes appear in various TK MAXX stores so if you see them yourself they would be well worth a go; not to mention that you would be supporting a great cause at the same time.  View Full Post

Look Fantastic Beauty Box | September

Hey Sweeties,

Happy Birthday Look Fantastic who have just celebrated their 1st birthday and to mark the occasion, an extra special beauty box has arrived at my door. However, unfortunately the box arrived later than usual to me this month so I haven’t really been able to give anything a good try and review for you properly here. But bear with if you will…

Look Fantastic beauty Box September

I love the packaging; it’s so fun this month against the usual black box that arrives

Look Fantastic Beauty Box September

L-R (lower): Sebastian Penetraitt shampoo; Caudalie Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet; Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face wash (2-in-1 cleanser & exfoliator).

L-R (top): Caudalie Vinosource  S.O.S Thirst Quenching Serum; Phytokeratine Extreme (hair mask); Sebastian Penetraitt Conditioner; Monu Skincare Tanworx (Tan maintainer/moisturiser).

Phytokeratine

However, despite being unable to review many of the products for you this month, some of them will definitely be coming away with me on Trek America (which I am leaving for this weekend, Eep!), particularly the Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash as not only is it travel size, but apparently it’s a #1 global best seller!

Unfortunately I don’t use fake tan and when I first noticed the Monu Skincare Tanworx moisturiser I immediately assumed it would be another bottle to ship to my friend who does. That being said, on closer inspection, although this product has been designed to work with the Tanworx tanning range, I wonder if it’ll work with natural tans? If so, this again has timed its arrival perfectly in line with my holiday.

I have hair products coming out of my ears at the moment but in the last year or two I have really started paying attention to maintaining well nourished, protected hair. So while shampoos and conditioners don’t really float my boat when I get samples (as let’s be honest, unless its something I can get in the supermarket/on the high street, I am unlikely to purchase full size), I do enjoy trying out new oils and masks.

I currently already have a Caudalie serum on the go from a previous box and it’s a brand that is beginning to position itself well on my radar, so I am pleased to see two additional sample products to try.

I am still enjoying receiving these boxes each month but I would like to see more make up get included if I am honest. I loved seeing the Rimmel Wake Me Up mascara in last month’s box (here), but following its disappointing impression, I want something new to try. Although we ended on not the best terms, that was one of the things I used to love about the Love Me Beauty Boxes I subscribed to early last year.

Do any of you get these boxes or have tried any of the above products before? I’ll be sure to let you know if anything really stands out for me while I am away!

Until next time x

Look Fantastic Beauty Box: August

Hey Sweeties,

Another post, another apology but if you read this post (here), you’ll know why everything went a bit crazy last week and why I am posting this Look Fantastic August box review a bit later than expected; the September box’s arrival being imminent. Hey ho!

Moving on. The August box is probably my favourite so far as I was beginning to get a bit frustrated with the contents of previous boxes but I think this is always the risk with beauty boxes; while they’re a great opportunity to try new brands, how many new brands do you really need to try, particularly if it’s the same types of products over and over?

August Look Fantastic Box

L-R bottom: bellapierre Cosmetics Shimmer Powder; Alterna Haircare, Caviar CC Cream; Beauty Works 10-in-1 Miracle Spray

L-R top: Eve Lom Cleanser; Rimmel Wonder’Full Wake Me Up Mascara; Omorovicza Budapest Queen of Hungary Mist.

Rimmel Wonder'full Mascara

I was so excited to see this Rimmel Wonder’Full Wake Me Up mascara in the box, the packaging is stunning and it was the first product I tried. Unfortunately, while its not terrible, it’s not the best and certainly nothing that’s going to make me convert from Maybelline’s Lash Sensational mascara as it doesn’t achieve the definition or hold a curl like my current favourite does. I also really dislike the size and shape of the applicator which is most of the problem I think and was the main element that made my heart sink when I opened it for the first time. What is different about this mascara though, is the waft of cucumber you get when you open it and that’s not something I have experienced previously.

I was pleased to see the Eve Lom Summer Ready Complexion Cleanser, although I am unfamiliar with the brand, I enjoy finding new cleansers and this one is (or feels) really oil based and on application, you can really feel it working but it doesn’t -for me- melt off my makeup in the same way The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Butter does. Again this isn’t a flaw as makeup is still removed, but I am just throwing it out there for a comparison as for me, the one I currently use for that really deep feeling cleanse is hard to beat.

10-in-1 Miracle spray

I have really enjoyed using the two hair products in this month’s box -the Beauty Works 10-in-1 Miracle spray and the Caviar CC Cream but of the two the one from Beauty Works is my favourite as it contains Argan, Linen Seeds and Macadamia oils so my hair feels super nourished after using. The only thing I would say against it though is that it’s not really a spray, there is a pump which you use to dispense product from it into your hand, to then apply into your hair, so you don’t (and can’t) spray as the name and description would suggest. But this genuinely is a minor flaw against all the other perks.

I have yet to try the bellapierre Cosmetics shimmer powder as although it looks gorgeous, it looks very shimmery so not something suitable for the daytime I feel, or at least for work. The Omorovicza Budapest Queen of Hungary Mist is also something I haven’t tried a lot of yet but first impressions are good and something I’ll continue to use and try out.

Have you guys tried anything in this box?

Until next time x
