Valentine’s Day on a budget: Four ideas how to celebrate

Valentine’s Day on a budget. Seeking some financial respite after the often busy and expensive festive period, it’s forgivable for many to want to keep spending thereafter to a minimum. For loved up bunnies however, Valentine’s Day is an extra excuse to tell your other half how much they mean to you… but it doesn’t need to break the bank.

Valentine’s Day on a budget #1: get crafty!

Sometimes the best gifts are those lovingly made by hand. Visit your local craft store and challenge you and your partner to make something (like a card) for each other; all materials must be purchased within a set £5 budget (or less).

Let your creative imaginations run wild, and don’t hold back on the glue, glitter and tissue paper! Pinterest is also a great resource for some fun creative ideas if you need a boost of inspiration. Have a young family? This will also be a great activity to get everyone involved.

#2 A romantic meal for two at home

Food is the language of love and you don’t need to be a first-class chef to be fluent. If you do not fancy whipping up a special meal from scratch, most supermarkets offer a ‘dine in for two’ meal deal including a main, side and dessert, with a bottle of wine, for £10.

Alternatively, apps like Tastecard will show you local restaurants offering 2-4-1 or a similar discount for those wishing to let others handle the cooking for the night.

#3 Say it with flowers

Maybe one for the special person in your life, few will be displeased with a beautiful bunch of flowers on arrival home after a busy day at work or a day spent running around after the children. Your local supermarket, florist or even an online flower delivery service will be able to create a bouquet within your budget.  Have a garden? Maybe you could buy a rose that will grow and flower year after year.

Valentine’s Day on a budget #4: Share a new experience

With us all leading such busy lives, taking that time out for each other can sometimes be a challenge. With lots of money saving websites out there such as Groupon and Wowcher, it has never been easier to find a fun experience you both can share and make memories with for a fraction of the price.

Afternoon tea (like this one here), chocolate making, a romantic night away, or time out at the spa, to name just a few ideas.

Tell me, how do you guys celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Until next time x
