My Fashion Scrap Books – Why I love Scrap Booking

Fashion scrap books – Today I thought I would share with you something that actually few people (if any) know I do… despite being 26 years old I still keep and maintain I guess you would call scrap books with fashion cuttings I take from women’s magazines, Heat being the number one source and favourite!

My Fashion Scrap Books

As you can see from the image, I quite simply cut out any good fashion images from magazines and paste them into my books. To date I am on my 3rd book which are just A4 notepads that I stick my cuttings into, surprisingly each scrap book has taken a good couple of years to complete before a new one begins but I love them, I can’t recycle a magazine without ensuring I have gone through it and removed any image (or article) that I like and would find useful.

Showing my Creative Style

I have always been an incredibly creative and artistic individual and I take inspiration from a lot of things, images of celebrities in attractive, well put-together outfits is one of them for both style tips and an art perspective. My own personal style has changed a lot over the years and as you’ll know, 2014 is the year I can finally really have some fun with it but until now it has never been something I have particularly felt I have nailed.

At school, I really wanted to be different, I hated how at the time we all looked a bit boring so I guess during my Secondary schooling I did play around with some ideas -I went through a ‘hippy’ phase then a gothic (ish) one, never consciously making myself look stupid or ridiculous but my teenage self wanted to be known for being a bit different. No bad thing although I do look back at some old photos and wonder on a couple of my ‘looks’ experimented with but never in regret.

But as you begin to get to know yourself and your confidence grows, the need to be different fades, it’s a sign of growing up. If I had gone to university at 18, I may have still continued to experiment because the opportunity would have been there to do so but instead I went into the professional world and as a consequence, my style I guess normalised (if that can be such a term to use and describe it?).

It is interesting to look through my scrap books and see how both celebrity style has changed but also what I myself, have considered to be good for the time. The celebrities also have changed that I have involved, not always consciously but themes have emerged, some I have picked up on and developed/added to, others just because the magazines dictated them.

For example, in my first scrap book Lindsay Lohan was everywhere and Mean Girls had become the ultimate teen flick so she was the cream of the crop and as a result, she has several pages dedicated to her. Now, Lindsay hardly graces the pages of fashion magazines but Mollie King does, I can’t get enough of her style at the moment and my scrap book shows that!

So, there you go Sweeties, a little bit more of me revealed to you! I would be really keen to know if any of you keep scrap books similar to mine, do share with me!

Until next time xx
