Sleek, Barry M and Soap & Glory Beauty Haul

Hey Sweeties,

I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve featured a beauty haul, albeit a small one but as so many of us beauty lovers know full well, from time and again we find ourselves (not accidentally) in our local drugstore. Need I say more? Here’s the damage –

Beauty Haul

Beauty Haul -Sleek Contour Kit

Beauty Haul -Sleek contour kit

Sleek Cream Contour Kit in Light – Until a couple of days before last weekend, the whole contouring thing hadn’t really taken my interest. Of course I use concealer under my eyes (mostly to brighten), and I chisel out my cheek bones with bronzer in my daily makeup routine, but beyond that I don’t otherwise contour. However, I always watch those quick videos on Instagram with fascination and how much a full contouring routine can transform someone’s face. Now, my intrigue has got the better of me and I would like to learn how to do it myself.

In my collection, I do already own some contouring powders amongst a couple of the palettes I own, most particularly the Smashbox Color & Contour Master class palette.  But as a beginner, I fancied learning with a cream formula as I just think it’ll be easier over powders for now and this Sleek palette seemed ideal. I’ll report back shortly with my thoughts once I’ve given it a go.

Miracle Complexion Sponge – In light of the above and much in the same way that contouring has only become a recent interest, the same applies to complexion sponges. I love my make up brushes and I use these day in day out for make up application. However and almost solely because of this wanting to learn to contour, every tutorial I have seen has involved a Beauty Blender/complexion sponge. I have heard some fantastic things about the sponge from Real Techniques but at a couple of pounds cheaper, I purchased this one in TK MAXX as a kind of starter sponge. Again I will use and report back when I review the Sleek palette in further detail.

Beauty haul -Sleek Matte Me lipstick

Beauty Haul -Sleek Matte Me Lipstick

Sleek Matte Me Liquid Lipstick in Velvet Slipper – You guys know how much I love the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks (post here), but I have always heard very good things about the Sleek Matte Me liquid lipsticks. My Twitter feed at least a couple times a week goes a bit mad with the people behind the Sleek account RT’ing a ton of reviews that they are tagged in. Of course they are not going to retweet a bad review, but as an existing consumer of Sleek make up, I already hold the brand in very high esteem. I have also said before in previous product reviews, that I try to think sensibly about what shades I don’t already have in my collection (regardless of formula) before purchasing new ones. I’ll admit I have similar shades, but I love the wine colour of Velvet Slipper and I think it’ll see me through the summer and winter. I’ll do a fuller review in a couple of weeks.

Beauty Haul - Barry M strobe cream

Barry M Strobe Cream stick in Frosty Sugar – In the last year or two, I have come to really appreciate how a good highlighter can add to your everyday makeup look and for me they are now a daily staple (see my collection here). Similar to the contour palette above, I own several powder highlighters but non in a cream formula so I am excited to try this new product from Barry M’s summer 2016 collection.

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Matte Lipstick in Pommie Girl – I have read quite a lot about this new lipstick range from Soap & Glory and I was intrigued enough to try one for myself.

Firstly, I really like the packaging, the metallic pink bullet is different to other products available on the high street and with that, a welcome addition to any collection. The lipsticks claim to be ‘moisture rich’ and “glide easily onto your lips and stay firmly in place as you go a-pout your day” which while involving a clever use of a pun, is true… sort of. It lasts well but I wouldn’t say it lasts all day, and being matte, I found the moisture element to disappear very quickly although it is gorgeously buttery to apply. As you know, I love a matte lip, particularly if I am wearing a bold colour as I like the confidence it gives me knowing it won’t budge. But while I adore the shade, I do find the lipstick very drying but for £9, I  still feel you’re getting a really nice product for your money.

Make sure you check back here again soon to hear how I get on with some of the new products I have purchased. What are some of your recent beauty purchases?

Until next time x
