Incredible Sunsets & Visiting Mumbai | The India Diaries Days 6-13

Day 6-13

From Ahmedabad, we took the train down to Mumbai and I almost cried when we arrived at our hotel as despite dreading the worst, it was lovely; clean, friendly staff and a great location for accessing the rest of the city.

We stayed down in the south of the city at Chateau Windsor, a hotel just off Marine Drive which lines the edge of the coast and was beautiful; the room even enjoyed its own balcony. Every evening after getting back from the cricket and before we headed out for dinner, we sat on the big wall that boarded Marine Drive and watched the sun set. Believe it or not, it was here Ian and I ate the best pizza of our lives and if you ever find yourselves in Mumbai in the future, you must check out ‘Pizza on the Bay’ on Marine Drive. I wouldn’t usually use this term but it was pukka! (or ‘gorgeous’ as our friend, Paul described it).

Visiting India’s Shithole – Ahmedabad | The India Diaries Days 4 & 5

Day 4 & 5: Visiting Ahmedabad

Of everywhere we visited in India, this was the worst and I do not know what on earth made the England cricket team have a test here? Without being rude but keeping it short, the place is a s***hole!

Having said that, had we arrived here first, I would have assumed this was normal and (probably) not hated every moment we were there, or rather, not as much. Everything there is just stripped down basic and beyond the cricket, there is absolutely nothing to do. View Full Post

Visiting Agra and the Taj Mahal | The India Diaries Day 2

Day 2 -Don’t Visit Agra on a Friday!

There wasn’t a test match here but you can’t come to India, be in a commutable distance to the Taj Mahal (Agra) and not travel to see the palace. Who knew though that on Friday’s the Taj Mahal was closed and what day did we end up in Agra… Friday! You can’t make that kind of stuff up but that was the situation we found ourselves in.

However, although we were both quite gutted about not being able to access the palace grounds, we could still see some of the palace from outside the walls and many of the restaurants advertise themselves on offering the view from their rooftops.  View Full Post

Arriving to India and Visiting Delhi | The India Diaries Days 1-3

Hey Sweeties,

Continuing with ‘My Favourites’ series running throughout July, having so far discussed my favourite shoes (here) & style icons (here). Today’ post focusses and presents itself as the ideal opportunity to finally get round to telling you about my favourite trip; travelling around some of India with Ian in 2012.

Travelling in India

Visiting India

India was one of those places I never thought I would visit and until going, it wasn’t actually on my list of must see places, but I am so glad I got the opportunity to go and I would go again in an instant! Ian and I went to India, essentially on an England cricket tour but with a few sight-seeing opportunities in between the test matches. The first week was spent going between three places before spending the second week in Mumbai and I am so thankful the tour was organised that way round, I’ll tell you why later.

Now, before we get started, an explanation of how this is going to work. Because there is so much to say, putting it all in one post might be a bit too much for one sitting although you are of course, welcome to read it all in one go. So I will publish each destination in its own post and link them all together so you can move between the posts as you read along our journey.

Ok, let’s begin!  View Full Post
