The Perks of Short Hair

Hey Sweeties,

Since the well documented fact that not so long ago I decided that long hair was no longer my thing, I thought I would update you on how life with shorter hair is. To no surprise (the title is a bit of a giveaway), I love having shorter hair and therefore I thought I would put into words, the perks!

For some context, I used to HATE the thought of short hair and short for me was anything above the small of my back. I did once lop all of my long hair off before because I think I just wanted something completely different and this was when I was in my mid-teens. Biggest mistake ever. Although it suited me, I hated it, it was just not the thing to do then and it wasn’t me at all. It’s like Rapunzel chopping her hair off, she changed and lost her powers… not that I had any of course, but you know what I mean.  View Full Post

The Overdue Chop: Finally Cutting off my Long Hair

Hey Sweeties,

My hair has been screaming for a change for months! For ages I thought a fringe was the answer and very nearly went for it but hair in my eyes is just the most annoying thing and having it pinned back all the time would completely dismiss the objective of having a fringe in the first place; I also think you need a special kind of confidence to have a fringe and that right now, I do not have. I also play hockey and keep active so being able to adequately tie my back hair back entirely is also a criteria to consider.

As you know (from photos) I have long hair which asides from a brief phase during my late teens, has always been the case. Length until now has been incredibly important, I always abide by longer the better and I hate getting it cut, always insisting the minimalist inch is chopped. But I think this has been the problem, despite adoring my long locks, I have outgrown them. I also never know what to do with it. I have been desperately in need of change and a shake up of appearance so over the weekend, this happened…

New hair

I can’t tell you how liberating it feels to go for a really big chop and my hair instantly felt lighter and healthier for it. The great thing also is that my hairdresser’s support The Prince’s Trust and I was able to support their initiative by donating my hair towards the cause.

What also deserves a mention is how valuable a good hairdresser is to you. I have been through many in my time and only when I moved to Hampshire a couple of years ago did I finally find one that was worth sticking with. Although I have now moved out of the area, I still make the journey back and I will no doubt follow her (Hania) should she move on elsewhere. I value her professionally and as a friend but more importantly I trust her and that with a hairdresser is key!

Until next time x
