My Collection of Makeup Brushes feat. Real Techniques, Nanshy & Sigma | August Blogs

Hey Sweeties,

I’m not yet in the position where my content is highly requested, but a post on my makeup brushes has been asked for by a couple of friends and it also completes my series of posts that has looked at areas of my makeup collection (foundations, lips, eyes, blushers, highlighters) in detail.

I do agree that I have a lot of makeup brushes, but much like makeup (which some could say that I also have too much of), they seem to just accumulate almost by accident. If you’re someone that alternates between several eye looks, then I do think it helps to have several brushes that you can assign to each of those looks to prevent the constant demand to keep washing them. But each to their own, eh?

Real Techniques –

Without any kind of doubt, Real Techniques are the best brand available for makeup brushes on the high street and I would highly recommend them, particularly if you are new to makeup and/or looking to purchase a couple of starter set makeup brushes. I own three of the sets –the core collection, the starter collection and the limited edition Sculpting set. I also own the blusher brush which I purchased separately and use every single day. All the brushes pick up and distribute product really well and wash nicely.

The only two brushes I have had problems with however are the Expert Face Brush and the Buffing Brush. The Expert Face Brush after a while, no matter how many times I wash it, has lost its softness and now just feels a bit clogged; and the buffing brush while being fantastic to use to apply foundation, started malting which is such a shame. However, for the price, the Real Techniques makeup brushes are great quality and value.

If you’re looking for good dupes, TK MAXX always usually have stock and you’ll recognise them instantly.

Nanshy –

I was lucky enough to win the Masterful collection that contained all of the makeup brushes and it’s a fantastic set that I would again highly recommend. These brushes are also cruelty free. For a full review, I need to take you back to the original post I wrote in December, here.

Sigma Sigmax Kabuki Kit

These were the first makeup brushes that I properly invested in and I haven’t looked back, although I would still class them as perfectly affordable. I am not a makeup artist and therefore arguably I don’t need a professional set of tools, but if makeup and good application is important to you, then I think Sigma are your brand. Again I have done a separate review of these which you can find here.

Best of the rest

Wet ‘N Wild –This fabulous little eye brush I purchased in America last autumn, and in my American Haul post (here), I said that I regretted not picking up more from the range.

Look Good Feel Better – I first discovered this brand within one of my Look Fantastic beauty boxes (here) and while the eye brush is perfectly okay, I later purchased the contour brush in TK MAXX which I use every day to blend out my bronzer and it’s brilliant. Definitely worth checking out if you come across them anywhere. All proceeds go towards a great cause too!

Lottie –I know people everywhere go wild over this brand for the pretty rainbow colours their makeup brushes come in, and while I do like this eye makeup brush that I again got in a recent beauty box, I need to try more of the range before I can confidently recommend them to you myself. But it is a very pretty looking brush.

My Makeup Collection: Highlighters

Hey Sweeties,

I initially wasn’t going to mention my small collection of highlighters in my series of posts focussed on the different areas of my makeup collection (foundations, eyes, lips & blushers), partly because out of everything, it’s the product I own the least of and therefore not much to show you. That being said, unlike say blushers, I think there isn’t a need to own a lot of highlighters because while they do exist in different tones, a couple of good highlighters is all you really need to get you by.

In recent months, the highlighter as a product has become such a staple in my daily makeup routine, I have really learned to appreciate it. Application is definitely a skill and it’s important to understand where and how it should be applied to get the most from it and not just look as though you have a random golden streak down your face. I am no way skilled therefore if you are looking for a master, I would whole heartedly recommend watching IntheFrow in her makeup tutorials.

So, without further ado, here is my collection of highlighters:

Topshop Highlighter Sunbeam

Topshop in Sunbeam – This is probably my most reached for highlighter and I think was actually the first in my collection. While it is maybe more yellow than I would ideally want, the pigmentation is excellent and leaves a lovely shimmery golden glow where applied.

Makeup Revolution Highlight palette

Makeup Revolution – Highlighter Palette – This is a fantastic highlight palette, it’s incredibly affordable and the pigmentation of the products is fantastic, to be honest you’d be fine if this was all you owned. Of the three, I mostly use either the one on the left or in the middle but I think this palette would suit most if not all skin tones. Definitely one to get hold of if you can.

The Manizer Sisters

The Manizer Sisters/Mary-Lou Manizer– I was delighted to pick this up in Las Vegas last year (see my American Haul post) and I can totally understand why everyone loves this highlighter so much. The reason why I don’t use it every day is more over accessibility in my drawer as it sort of gets lost around other products (because this is a palette rather than a single pan), whereas my Topshop highlighter is much easier to grab in a hurry. Again, the pigmentation is great and it’s the perfect tone to accentuate key facial features. Of the three in my collection it’s the pricier product but as I said earlier, you don’t need tons of highlighters so if you wanted a budget friendly and one slightly more expensive (but still perfectly affordable), The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer would be a good shout.

My Make-Up Collection: Blushers

Hey Sweeties,

A few weeks ago I started a new mini blog series with the intention of taking you through my make-up collection, starting with my foundations (here). Today I thought I would share with you my collection of blushers which, let it be known, are my weakness of all make-up products. I can’t put a definite reason for this but I always feel there is room for a new one, whereas things like eye make-up, you do reach a point where you get every look covered. With blush, I love the application; it’s effortless and girlie and can really compliment complexion.

My Makeup Collection: Foundations

Hey Sweeties,

So today I thought I would launch a new series of posts whereby I take the opportunity to show you my makeup collection in a bit more detail. Of course my collection is almost constantly being added to on a monthly basis but anything new will feature in haul posts and reviewed separately afterwards later. But for the most part, I can quite easily take you through some of my collection starting with: Foundations.
