Summer Haul featuring New Look, ASOS & Mango

I thought we’d begin with a summer haul.

Even though much of my summer wardrobe is simply revived pieces from the year(s) previous, I do still feel the need to update and introduce some new clothing and accessories into the regular mix of items. And let’s be honest, there’s always room for a bit more when a shopping urge takes over!

I have made the following purchases across the last month or two, and a couple of the items you have already seen in recent posts on here and/or Instagram. But I thought you would still be interested in seeing a collective summer haul of everything I have recently purchased.

ASOS

Girls on Film blouse in tropical print with lace trim – I wore this to the recent Bloggers Hangout Summer event because it seemed to fit the ‘summer garden chic’ outfit brief. It rests about hip height which is a tad too short for me because I don’t like exposing my midriff, so I wear a long vest top underneath which adds that additional cover I need. This tropical lace blouse is a total summertime hit.

Only Aztec print shirt – I love pattern, particularly in the workplace as it’s an easy way to add a level of interest to an otherwise fairly plain look. This shirt caught my eye as a piece that will do well throughout the year.

I have a category dedicated to dressing for work if you want to see more content around work wear, which you can access under ‘fashion’ on the main navigation bar above. I’ll style this piece up for you soon!

ASOS Swing cardigan with suede look star elbow patches – I seem to never have enough cardigans, (or jumpers for that matter) but I seem to really struggle in spending a lot for them. When I saw this one in the sale, it was exactly the style I like and I love the star patches on the elbows; I have no doubt this will be worn for years to come.

ASOS Seersucker button through beach dress – You’ll remember I wore this dress to the British Grand Prix recently and aside from being an incredibly light, maybe-not-British-weather-practical fabric (hence it being a ‘beach dress’), I love it! It can be worn on its own, over the top of leggings, with cardigans, jumpers…

New Look

Cream cotton dungaree pinafore dress – This was a bit of a scary purchase and I half expected that I would end up taking it back because I doubted if the look would be a bit young for me, or whether I could simply pull it off.

As it happened it’s turned into a really fun piece, particularly because I don’t buy into a lot of the core fashion trends. Dungarees definitely don’t suit everybody and this is why I’ve gone for a dungarees dress instead of shorts or trousers. I have no doubt I’ll continue to wear them throughout the coming months.

White animal print bomber jacket – For the same reason I purchased my other patterned bomber jacket earlier in the year, is the same reason why I purchased this one… and also to reiterate my point about how much I love animal print!

Mango

Animal print long sleeved blouse – Need I explain why I purchased this blouse? I don’t think so!

Necklace – My jewellery collection needs a huge update, particularly for statement pieces so adding this piece to my haul was easy; I love the pop of yellow with the gold.

Zebra print leather bag – Because Zebra! Check out my latest what’s in my bag post so you can see it in more detail.

A Rural Summer Wedding | Outfit, Makeup & Accessories I Wore

Hey Sweeties,

One of my favourite things about going to a wedding, is seeing how much the day reflects the couple; from the venue, the attire, the decoration and so on. Last weekend, my husband and I were invited to a rural summer wedding reception of two friends and from the invite, we knew it would have a very relaxed vibe to it. For starters, it was buried within a valley and therefore heels were strongly advised against, and when we eventually made it to the location, we were greeted by picnic tables with jars of fresh flowers, and a large open-sided tent situated in the middle of the field. With the sun shining (thank goodness), the place couldn’t have been more reflective of the couple; it was beautiful.

What I wore:

I bought this dress a few months ago from ASOS and I am just so in love with it. I love the peach colour and the lace panelling; it screams summer wedding! As it was high necked, I didn’t need a necklace so I accessorised the look with gold coloured sandals, a light pinky-peach coloured clutch from Head over Heels, and a floral crown (which I think I purchased from H&M a summer or two ago) which was a huge hit with other guests. The only thing I didn’t think about was pairing my outfit with a pashmina for when the night got cold, but I did fortunately have a jumper with me to use as by that time of night, everyone adopted warmth over style.

Makeup

Considering the rural vibe of the wedding as well as taking into consideration my outfit, I wanted to create a look using a palette of pinks and peach tones. For my base I used the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation which I really love for summer, before seizing the opportunity to try out my new Sleek cream contour palette which I purchased in a recent haul (here), that I applied over the top. I have a formal review of the palette coming to the blog very soon so I won’t go into any more detail for now.

In addition to my base I used the Revlon shimmer brick which I am totally loving at the moment for that perfect light pink flush and highlight; a combination of shades from the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette for my eyes; Bobbi Brown gel liner which I lightly smudged; and my favourite Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara in intense black. I also used the Hi Impact Brows palette. For a hot day it was a lot of makeup to wear but I loved the completed look and it lasted me well into the night.

As the sun went down, the fairy lights came on, the beats started to drop and the drink flow. The night ended with a large camp fire before we all retired to our tents.

Black and Stripey in the Workplace

Hey Sweeties,

How gorgeous has the weather been this week, so hot! I hope it continues into the weekend!

The below outfit was worn on Wednesday -the hottest day on record- so knowing it would be so hot (but fortunately our office has air con that sometimes can feel like you’re sat in the arctic), I needed to wear something that was super simple, not layered but loose enough so that I didn’t get too uncomfortable sat at my desk and this stripey dress fitted the bill perfectly!

My legs do not seem to photograph well in these strappy heeled sandals but these were a great addition to the outfit to still keep it all formal enough for the office, while adding in a summery vibe.

Summer Style Ideas for the Work Place / New Look Haul

Summer style ideas for work outfits is something a lot of us search for. In winter, we tackle the cold weather by layering and for fashion bunnies, this is actually a really fun and easy way to create new looks.

In summer, we wear less which means the pieces we choose need to work harder on their own, and although for the most part summer attire looks effortless, it is often far from it but where accessories really come into play.

My new workplace operates a business-casual rule Monday – Thursday and on Fridays, it’s casual. Much like my previous workplace (where it was actually far more corporate), I loved finding looks that injected a bit of colour and fun into an outfit and this hasn’t changed. Also, since lopping my long locks off (here), I have been loving my new look and I have been eagerly anticipating the summer to work a new, fresher style.

So with that all in mind, here is how I might be wearing the selection of new pieces I bought recently.

Summer style outfit #1

A black t-shirt is a black t-shirt but it is such a wardrobe staple and can pretty much be worn with anything. That being said, there is such a thing as too much black & in the summer this should be avoided where possible. This outfit would be perfect for casual Friday.

Keeping Fit for Summer

Hey Sweeties,

Now that the summer evenings are lighter, there is nothing nicer than after a long day in the office, to be able to come home and get out in the fresh air for an hour or so -however long time allows before the sun sets.

Before Ian and I moved house last July, I had the most beautiful scenic route for walks and runs around the back lanes of the village which, from initial appearance of our new location, never imagined it could be matched. I was wrong, a mere mile or so up the road we have the beauty of the Thames overflow river, home to tons of wildlife and perfect for quick evening walks and runs or longer strolls at weekends.

I can’t remember if I mentioned on here last year about my work’s Step Challenge -a virtual walk from London HQ to our Copenhagen office to raise money for The British Heart Foundation? Although our partnership with the BHF has now come to an end and we have begun working with The Prince’s Trust, the Step Challenge is back on! For one month, in teams of six we have each pledged to complete 10,000 steps a day (or as close as possible), to support our team to reach the final destination first. Rather than London to Copenhagen, this year we’re ‘walking’ Copenhagen to (and around) the rest of the Nordic region; 848 miles/1,790,976 steps!

The fundraising aside, this is a fantastic work-based initiative and raises awareness of how easily it is to sit at your desk all day and not move except for the occasional tea/coffee run. To date I have been extrememley lucky with where I have worked on the basis of location. In my last office we were situated on a little country lane and also had an amazing forest at the end of the road. In my current workplace, a short walk out of the business park and through a housing estate and we have a beautiful canal to walk along so for that lunchtime break there really is no excuse to not get out for a bit… unless it’s raining, that’s a justified excuse I guess.

ISS-Steppers

Last year you’ll also remember (possibly), at this time training was well underway for the X Runner Water Wipeout Challenge (here) and the Yorkshire Three Peaks (here) I had signed up for. This summer, aside from the step challenge that is already in progress, I haven’t yet signed up for anything to provide a focus to my training. Not that I definitely need one, but I think it always helps to have something to work towards so I’ll be keeping an eye out for any local events that might be worth participating in.

Sometimes, the last thing you want to do -despite the health benefits- is go out after you have come in from work and that is where the step challenge has its drawbacks; if you haven’t met the 10,000 daily step target you have to go out, but in equal measure has it’s perks as it forces me to get off my arse and out exercising. I am someone that loves to keep active and fit (as you know) and I am definitely so much happier when I feel fitter but even I have my lazy days and need motivating to move myself! For me, amongst other things, exercising is my number one stress reliever hence why I enjoy playing hockey so much; after a long day I have a good runaround and burn some energy.

What are you guys doing to keep fit and healthy at the moment?
