At the beginning of the month, I was invited* to try the new bottomless brunch at The Botanist in Marlow. I had recently visited and tried out the dinner and cocktail menu at the new Reading location, so I was excited at being able to get the opportunity to return to The Botanist. I also had never before visited Marlow.
Bottomless Brunch at The Botanist Marlow
Located on West Street in Marlow, The Botanist is set amongst gorgeous old English buildings containing a mixture of restaurants, coffee shops, thrift stores, and high street fashion retailers as well as more boutique offerings; I fell in love with Marlow straight away. The Botanist has a lovely large front that on our arrival was wide open so customers could sit in the open window and people watch as they enjoyed a beverage or two. My friend and I were greeted warmly on arrival and lead to the back of the restaurant to our table.
What we both noticed straight away was the attention to detail The Botanist took with creating the interior, and this was the same in Reading. The atmosphere was inviting, warm and laid back.
As part of the bottomless brunch, my friend Gemma and I were able to select one food item from the brunch menu, and then select a bottomless beverage. Gemma opted for the poached egg on toast with smoked salmon and hollandaise with chives, accompanied by bottomless Prosecco Sacchetto; I went for the veggie breakfast (without eggs), and bottomless pink grapefruit and peach Sangria.
To be honest, I am not a big consumer of alcohol, particularly in large quantities; I prefer longer drinks that I can relax with and enjoy casually by sipping regularly, than consuming at a pace. Before enjoying the bottomless brunch, I was not wholly sure about how many bottomless drinks I would actually get through to make it worthwhile. However, the Sangria was the perfect choice for me as it accompanied my meal perfectly and over the course of the two and a bit hours Gemma and I chatted away, I think I got through 3-4 large glasses. The waitresses were perfect at approaching our table to replace our bottomless beverages when they saw us getting low, without us ever really noticing we were due a refill.
As for our food, Gemma did notice that her poached eggs could have been slightly runnier inside than they were, but the presentation of the dish was top notch. I couldn’t have faulted my veggie breakfast, it definitely helped soak up the bottomless Sangria!
Overall, I was impressed with the bottomless brunch offering from The Botanist and I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed it, and how I would easily do it again; it would be a great way to begin a chilled Saturday before an afternoon browsing the shops.
What does your perfect lazy weekend look like?
Until next time x
